Sudden thought of cleaning the engine bay today only to realized my air pipe after filter box is broken badly into 3 pieces.
Called 3 stockist, Premium Auto, and my regular workshop but all no stock. Eventually indented with one of the stockist but only available next Wednesday.
Not wanting to drive my company car, I attempted to do a temp fix.
Bought duct tape, some high temp glue and cable tie.
Started with this part that connects to the throttle body. Cleaned surface briefly applied nail glue and superglue.
Took a long time to set. Not very tight thus apply 1 layer of duct tape for 2 purposes. First to reduce air leak, second as additional outer fibre reinforcement structure to hold the broken parts together.
The broken reservoir part is all taped up by many layer of duct tape. The cable tie is to hold the last layer that goes around all the tape and prevent it from peeling off due to heat on the adhesive.
The first component done. Now have to rejoin the 2nd broken portion of the air pipe which is the silencer and flexible part.
First, Super glue is used to bring the two parts together.
Second step wrap 2 layers of duct tape to prevent air leakage due to poor joint and reinforce binding structure.
Third, cable tie to prevent duct tape fall off from heat and further secure the structure before the glue set completely.
Took 3 hrs in all and think it will last thru the week before the replacement arrive.
Fix and tested. So far so good.
Possible cause of damage
Engine mount worn off resulting in vibration + prolong exposure to high temperature + possibly service guy didn't remove the hose properly when changing air filter.
The broken part number 06E 129 615H
Was informed by stockist this part number has obselete and replaced by 06E 129 615M
I was thinking if Audi realized the previous material is too brittle and thus new part is made differently.
